My word to live by in 2024 was EMBRACE. Each month I chose a different perspective in life to embrace. My intention was to be present and prioritize that aspect of life fully. Simultaneously experiencing life and focusing on present concepts was eye-opening in the sense that it allowed me to see whether my personal values and goals were in alignment with how I was living life or not.
If I was embracing health, yet going out with friends and drinking - what hypocrisy of me. If I was embracing productivity, yet scrolling on my phone or watching TV - how unaligned of me. If I was embracing gratitude, yet getting frustrated and not slowing down to appreciate what I do have rather than what I don’t have - how sad of me.
It’s impossible to be present while not living in accordance with your values and goals.
It all comes down to alignment - what you want in life & how you live life.
My word of 2024 is ALIGNMENT.
If you feel like you need clarity of what your values, principles, priorities, and goals are in life and maybe you struggle being present - I encourage you to begin with this year long exercise of EMBRACING different aspects of your life to see how/if the life you’re living is in alignment with what is truly important to you.
These areas of focus I chose to tune into in 2024 - take some, switch some, make this year of value/life alignment as you need.
EMBRACE:
January - Consistency: Set the foundation of the year with consistent healthy, positive habits. Set your year up for success having the basics down and knowing your base level. Consistently wake up at the same time daily, have a consistent workout schedule, meal prep and plan, time batch your work days.
February - Love: Consider how you can show yourself, your friends and family more. Explore what your love languages are and notice if they are being satisfied by those you surround yourself with. Notice how you give and receive love and how that may need to be reevaluated to align with those you’re in relation with.
March - Growth: There’s nothing worse than feeling stuck in life. Recognize how you’ve grown - spiritually, professionally, personally, relationally - and see in what areas you can grow. Evaluate your goals and set an action plan of how to continue growing.
April - Health: What is the status of your health? Maybe you go get lab testing done. Maybe you prioritize whole foods and healthy ingredients. Maybe you walk to work or daily take a walk after dinner.
May - Mindfulness: Start and end the day with a prayer/meditation practice. During the day if I felt stressed, etc. I’d focus on my breathing to calm rather than distract by scrolling. I mindfully chose meals and workouts - sometimes opting out of the workout or going out to eat - creating balance in life.
June - Yourself: June is my birthday month so I wanted to make it the most “me” by doing all the things I love - spend time outside, different workouts, good music, hiking, good food, time celebrating with friends and family, etc. This allowed me to really see what I do and do not like about the life I’m living and get “on track” to prioritize doing what makes me feel most like me.
July - Productivity: As someone who is interested and involved in many things, focus and productivity can be a challenge. Time batching, sticking to my calendar, and having dedicated time for work and personal time was essential.
August - Intentionality: Being productive led to me wanting to be intentional about my time and it was a perfect flow from one to another. Intentionality was really me being present in decision making and what I was choosing to do and experience.
September - Change: Fall feels like a season of change for me - as the weather and time changes, daily practices, clothing, activities and emotions change too. I checked in to see what changes I may want to implement in life. I decorated for fall, switched up my workouts and walk schedule, embraced the fall things like watching football and cooking seasonal foods, and listened to “fall vibes” music.
October - Simplicity: As change happens, I feel the need to go back to the basics to keep consistency in life. I simplified the meals - some favs here. I cleaned and purged the house of unnecessary items.
November - Gratitude: There is so much to be grateful for whether you see it easily or not - the job you have, the people you spend time with, the talents you have unique to you, the clothes in your closet… the list goes on forever. Daily consider three things you are grateful for. In challenging moments, recognize the good that may come and how it could be a blessing in disguise.
December - Relationships: The word relationship goes beyond people in your life. Consider what your relationship with career, money, health, self, friends, family looks like. Consider how the relationships can be more balanced while ensuring all of your cups are being filled.
