We as humans are constantly changing whether we choose to recognize it or not. We were created to evolve and learn and become complex living this life in our own unique way. The changing seasons are nature's way of telling us it is time to change our routines, habits and daily life practices.
Change is constant. When you are approached with change - how do you react? Do you welcome it with open arms and embrace what new shifts this could bring to your life, or do you deflect and become defensive holding onto what was? How often do you depend on what's comfortable and what you "know" works "best" rather than considering something could work more in your favor? What if you embraced that change that happens "to you" and let it happen for you - after emotionally reacting as you might innately - consider how this change can serve your life for the better and roll with it.
Change can be scary. When things, people, schedules, circumstances, etc. change unexpectedly it can be jolting - surprising us to react emotionally and without deeper consideration of its long-term effects. We live in the black and white of how we believe things should be and tightly in the bounds of our schedules that when things add a pop of color unexpectedly we look at it as though negative circumstances are happening to us. Don't get me wrong - sometimes it is, but what really matters is how we react - first reflecting on how this could work in our favor, then actioning it to work in our favor. For example, imagine if your boutique fitness studio abruptly changed its schedule and your favorite class of the week was moved to a new time or switched instructors. Would your instinct be to leave and go elsewhere, or would you inquire about the change and adapt the schedule to your life? This could be a perfect time to switch up your workout routine (which we should be doing every few months regardless), meet new people, and explore new modalities. OR perhaps you at least try to adjust and if it truly doesn't work for you then you know and can make your self-led change at that point.
Change is about growth. Can you imagine if you were the same person with the same beliefs, knowledge and values as you were at 16 years old? Can you imagine if you still went to the same places with the same people and did the same things you did when you were 16? I cannot and I'm so incredibly grateful I've evolved since then. I, like you, am so much more than who I was then. I have experiences of life that have created the person I am today - the good, bad, ugly and beautiful have shaped and continue to shape the person I become daily. Change is essential to keep us from being stagnant and becoming mundane creatures of comfortability. Now don't get me wrong, it is a blessing to feel secure and stable, but there should always be a little drive inside of your heart to dig a little deeper, work a little harder and experience a little bit more each and every day.
Embrace change. Embrace the weather changes. Embrace the change in fresh produce available at your local farmers market. Embrace new morning and night routines. Embrace work schedule changes. Embrace the change of a new workout series. Embrace the change of your emotions, relationships, beliefs and outlook on life.
